Some Frequently Asked Questions About Remodeling
What is the general CMS process?
The CMS Process is a method of project delivery in which the homeowner
will contract directly with CMS for both the design and construction
services. You as the homeowner would have only one company to deal
with -CMS (rather than being the intermediary between the contractor
and everyone else). One of the benefits of using the CMS process
is your project will be in the hands of our company the entire time,
avoiding communication breakdown between what was designed and what's
being built, eliminating costly delays and cost overruns.
I would like to make an appointment with you - how do I do
that and what will happen once I do?
Please contact CMS to schedule an initial consultation appointment. At
your first appointment, we will discuss and review what you would like
to accomplish with your project.
How much do you charge per square foot?
At CMS our projects are as unique as our clients, and it is generally
not possible to establish a "per square foot" price for our
work. There are many areas that cannot be calculated on a square foot
basis such a personal preferences, existing conditions, and individual
tastes in the areas of quality and aesthetics. Remember, we need to
know what you have in mind before giving any estimated costs.
CMS will assist you with the numerous selection decisions. CMS will work closely with you to develop your color schemes and provide information on products so that you can make informed decisions. We will also work hand in hand with your designer.
Will I need permits for my project and if so who handles
the paperwork?
Once you approve the finalized contract, CMS will handle all the
paperwork needed for permitting. Every municipality has different
building codes and licensing requirements. CMS complies with and
upholds all permit and licensing requirements as needed.
Do you provide a free estimate?
We will provide you with a free rough estimate. A detailed estimate is a complex service that we generally charge a fee to provide. We ultimately need to see the scope of work, take measurements and get a feel for what you want.
Do you use sub-contractors?
We have several of our own hands and we also use sub-contractors for other aspects of the job, depending on what is required. We have established relationships with everyone who will work on your project.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes, we stand behind the work we do and will make sure that you are happy with the end result. We want to build a relationship with our clients and will respond to your needs even if it is five years after we’ve completed the project.
Will I need a permit?
It depends on the scope of work. We will let you know once we have been out to see the project if a permit will be necessary & what any related costs are.
How long will the project take?
This depends on several factors including scope of work, selection of materials, lead times, and scheduling. We can give you a preliminary time estimate on site and then once the details have been reviewed, we will provide you with a project timeline.
How do I pay for my project?
We will collect a deposit at the time the Preliminary Contract is signed. From there we will establish a payment schedule with the final payment being made after everything is completed and you’ve had a chance to inspect the work.
Do I need to hire an architect?
If your project should require an architect, we can provide one.
Is there any part of a remodel that you cannot do?
We are capable of all aspects of a remodeling project and if there is a special task or skill that is needed, we will research and find the best options for you.
Who will be supervising the work?
CMS or one of our approved designates will be.
